Mobil.Pro.Fit: And how do you get to work?

At least one-fifth of the CO2 emissions in Germany are attributable to the transport sector. In business too, the area of mobility accounts for a large share of the operational climate protection balance. Improvements can also be achieved not only in regard to large logistics chains, but also directly at local business locations. The Mobil.Pro.Fit project led by B. A. U. M. Consult from Hamm is addressing this: The company fleet and businesses trips are taken into consideration, as are the employees' journeys to work.

Up until 2016, mobility measures are to be jointly developed with businesses in different regions, which contribute to climate protection and also bring with them further advantages such as the promotion of health through cycling, for example.

Engine for progress:

  • large-scale climate protection potentials in commercial mobility
  • positive environmental protection effects and health effects
  • successful testing is made more widespread
  • cooperation from businesses and municipalities

Climate-friendly forms of transport can be intelligently combined.

The DENA (German Energy Agency) estimates the savings potential for greenhouse gases just in relation to employees travelling to work in Germany to be on average approximately 250 tonnes per company location. Within the context of the model project, Mobil.Pro.Fit, a total of 160 businesses are to be included, so that greenhouse gas emissions in the amount of 40,000 tonnes per year could be saved.

Successful pilot in Westphalia

The pilot project was carried out from 2012 to 2013 in Dortmund Hamm and Unna in collaboration with the administrative bodies and the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Six companies with a total of approximately 5,500 employees took part, developing and implementing 110 measures. The wealth of ideas from the companies and their employees was almost limitless: The broad spectrum of measures introduced ranges from preferential parking spaces for car pools and exchanges, to company bicycles for the trip between the railway station and work, to driver safety and fuel-saving courses and new procurement guidelines.

In the participating regions, as well as interregionally, Mobil.Pro.Fit wants to create a platform for the exchange of experience and information on innovative mobility forms, offers and suppliers. In addition, the experiences flow into the development of standards for successful mobility management and successful mobility consultation, which are still unavailable to date.

Close participation by cities and municipalities

An important aspect of Mobil.Pro.Fit is the close collaboration between cities/municipalities and companies. Public interests, such as climate protection and the prevention of noise or air pollution, can be linked to operational interests, such as cost-cutting, employee motivation and image promotion.

"Mobility management forms a bracket between commercial energy management and society’s environmental and climate protection goals. With the Mobil.Pro.Fit. project, we are showing businesses how they can get climate protection "on the road" in the truest sense of the word, while at the same time strengthening sustainable management".
