EkoZet: Concentrated building competence

With the Energy Competence Centre (EkoZet), Rhine-Erft District created a central point of contact for questions pertaining to energy production and efficiency in 2012. With this interface for knowledge, information and contacts, the district now has a body that is capable of increasing the efficiency potentials in the region, especially in the priority area of buildings.

Energy-efficient building envelopes, building automation and technical innovations in the field of heating, cooling and ventilation offer big cost savings. The transfer of knowledge based on practical application is particularly important to the Energy Competence Centre (EkoZet). Over 400 square metres of floor space, functional exhibits, prototypes and the passive house technology from EKoZet itself are available for this purpose. On various heating and insulations systems, photovoltaic and solar thermal systems can be tried out in ongoing operation, compared and evaluated. In addition, tests and measurements of insulations systems, roof and ground constructions as well as heating systems can be carried out...

Engine for progress:

  • central institution for the entire district
  • closing the knowledge and acceptance gaps
  • a strong network and further networking

In the Energy Competence Centre of the Rhine-Erft District, interested amateurs and professionals can find information and contacts of relevance to them.

A centre for the public, impetus for the municipalities

EkoZet, which is located in the Rhine-Erft District, is a demonstration, information and training centre for the entire region. It is aimed at many stakeholders: citizens, craftsmen, real estate managers, homeowners, architects, janitors, planners etc. A broad programme is on offer, from training measures for individual trades to information for interested laymen.
Participants exchange knowledge and network in lectures, discussion rounds and regular public get-togethers. In addition to the development and implementation of integrated local energy and climate protection goals, the stakeholders also set impulses within the municipalities. Far beyond the district, EkoZet is seen and appreciated as an expert body.

Financing by a friends’ association, network maintenance by strong partners

The Adolf-Kolping Vocational College, the District Craftsmen's Association and Aachen University of Applied Sciences were involved at an early stage in the content and didactic planning of EkoZet. From the beginning, those responsible planned a friends’ association to finance ongoing activities and develop partnership relationships with companies. The partners are also involved in programme content, exhibits and construction works.
The climate protection potential in the areas of energy-efficient building envelopes, heating/cooling/ventilation and building automation is great. With EkoZet, the Rhine-Erft District has a body that can increase this potential.

Experience and learn in order to do it! The EkoZet is a facility where consumers, craftsmen, school students and apprentices as well as all other interested parties are given the opportunity to address the need for and practical opportunities of more efficient use of energy and to learn about renewable energies at different levels of competence in numerous ways. Various event formats, a large exhibition space and an extensive range of seminars are available to our visitors for this purpose."
